Johns Hopkins University selected MGAC to provide program and project management support for major capital projects and a campus master plan in Baltimore, Maryland. As the Program Manager, MGAC supports a centralized management structure for these major capital projects and initiatives aimed at ensuring standardized methodologies, governance, reporting, and the leveraging of resources such as staff, technology, and communication.
In addition to projects in Baltimore, MGAC provided project management support for the dramatic overhaul of the roughly 435,000 SF former Newseum building into a state-of-the-art academic facility that allowed the existing DC-based schools and programs to be consolidated into one facility known as the Bloomberg Center.
The recently completed Bloomberg Center boasts 38 classrooms, a 375-seat theater, study spaces, lounges, and terraces offering panoramic views of Pennsylvania Avenue and the United States Capitol. Additional amenities such as a library, fitness center, and coffee shop enhance the overall experience for students, faculty, and staff.
MGAC provided efficient project management, cost-effective solutions, and adherence to sustainable building practices. One of the standout features of the center is the inclusion of two cantilevered floating classrooms suspended from trusses, providing captivating views of the atrium. Dubbed “The Beach,” a spacious communal area serves as a focal point for student interaction and relaxation. The interior layout underwent strategic reconfiguration to optimize space utilization and accommodate diverse program requirements. The center is poised to achieve LEED® Silver Certification, underscoring its commitment to environmental stewardship and energy efficiency.
