Project Summary

MGAC provided project management, owner’s representation, and technology solutions services for the delivery of this new High Performance Computing Center on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology. The university looked to create a state-of-the-art technology nexus within its midtown Atlanta campus. The 90,000 SF, three-story data center was delivered in multiple phases, and includes 40,000 SF of raised floor data suites, with an ultimate critical load of 8MW.

The first phase included 2 MW and the building’s core and shell and critical systems, such as MEP infrastructure, building management, network operations center, security, utilities, and IT network connectivity. Phases 2 through 4 will build-out additional blocks of critical systems.

MGAC’s scope included management of final contract negotiations between all project team members; design management; sub-contractor and equipment procurement; GMP development; and subsequent construction, commissioning, and close-out.

Key to the project’s success was value engineering the original design without mitigating the levels of power and reliability required by the university. As part of the design management phase, MGAC oversaw the careful analysis of the university’s computing needs and operational demand to determine the best path forward to meet these needs but control costs.
