Brought on by Smoot-Gilbane, a joint-venture, MGAC was tasked with procuring all FF&E for the renovation of the 427,263 SF Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (MLK Library). Originally designed by world-renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, MLK Library is one of the largest District of Columbia Public Libraries (DCPL); due to its size, the library and its renovation, are well-known by residents of the district. Upon finalization of our contract, MGAC immediately brought five FF&E subcontractors on-board to provide FF&E products. All RFI’s, submittals, and shop drawings were first reviewed by MGAC, submitted to Smoot-Gilbane, and then reviewed by the MLK Library Design Team. MGAC tracked questions and revisions of each document and worked with the FF&E vendors to ensure all comments were incorporated into the final submittals and shop drawings. MGAC coordinated site visits for each vendor to conduct their field measurements and conditions assessments. MGAC and Smoot-Gilbane worked through each field issue, ensuring FF&E could be installed properly. In addition to managing the design process, MGAC was responsible for budget tracking, PO creation, and purchase of FF&E on behalf of Smoot-Gilbane. MGAC also managed all FF&E installation coordination and project close-out, which included creating installation timeframes, truck delivery schedules, dock and freight elevator reservations, phasing of the installation by each vendor per floor, power and data coordination for furniture integration, punch list tracking, and final invoicing.
