Urban Institute, Headquarters

Washington, DC, United States

Project Summary

MGAC managed the delivery of the Urban Institute’s new headquarters, the only major relocation since their founding by President Lyndon Johnson 50 years ago, consisting of 140,000 SF of leased space within a new 220,000 SF office building located at 500 L’Enfant Plaza. The new headquarters features a conference center; broadcast auditorium; fitness center; indoor access to L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station; the largest private parking garage in Washington; and 120,000 SF of on-site amenities—including more than 20 dining options, 12 retailers, 70,000 SF of green space, and a 5,500 SF rooftop deck overlooking the Southwest Waterfront.

Initially selected to provide due diligence and site selection services, MGAC’s role steadily evolved over the course of the project. Our team was responsible for managing the entire design and construction process, technology design and integration, cost and risk management, furniture procurement, and relocation management.
