Terasaki Research Institute, Headquarters

Project Summary

The Terasaki Research Institute commissioned MGAC to manage the construction of its new headquarters, located on an infill site in Los Angeles’ Westwood neighborhood. The facility provides a modern workplace and state-of-the art laboratories that support research in biotechnology. Interior office, meeting, and collaboration spaces are arranged around two atria that stream daylight throughout the building, while laboratories are located below-grade. The design also provides ample event space to support the Institute’s mission to engage the public and expand community outreach.

The structure retains the original front facade and perimeter foundations of a former building, The project also required a major basement foundation modification; significant exterior improvements; and the addition of an elevator pit, three new floors of concrete deck, and roof pads.
