NBCUniversal, Facilities Renovation

Washington, DC, United States

Project Summary

In the Fall of 2021, MGAC was engaged by NBCUniversal to provide project management services for their 178,000 SF major renovation project located at their owned facilities in Washington, DC. The existing 1960’s building addition, comprised of 24,000 SF, will be demolished during the course of construction and the remaining 154,000 SF will be renovated to house three different broadcast stations. The project consists of the complete renovation and upgrade of MEP and technology infrastructure, including the construction of new studio space to support these stations. During construction, the facility will remain fully operational, including daily productions, which adds an element of complexity to the project scope as all project team members work to ensure that the delivery of on-air broadcasts are not impacted.

The construction team was assembled early in the design process to ensure that a thoughtful phasing strategy to support this occupied, in-place renovation was incorporated into the overall delivery plan for the project. Maintaining operations through multiple phases is essential for project success. As part of the overall project, the interior renovation will include new studios, lobby, security, newsroom, control rooms, offices, and support spaces along with significant exterior upgrades around the property. Project completion is expected in early 2024.
