The building process is complex and comes with common—and not-so-common—challenges. Learn more about what we do as Project Managers in our monthly video series, MGAC on the Move. Each month a different member of our team will give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at one of their current projects. Now let’s get moving!

This month, Heidi Androlia gives us a tour of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington, DC.

Hello. My name’s Heidi Androlia, and I’m a Senior Project Manager here at MGAC. Let’s get moving! MGAC’s FF&E Procurement team was engaged by Smoot-Gilbane to procure and manage all FF&E for the historic MLK Jr. Library renovation. As you walk up to the library, you can learn a little bit about the construction and build of the original building, which was originally designed by Mies van der Rohe.

Here we are in the Great Hall. Many of the same features remain from the original building. The Grand Reading Room features two-story high ceilings and an art installation by Xenobia Bailey. Grab a book, pull up a seat, and enjoy the views. Another furniture partner did a great job installing shelving that houses the many books stored at the MLK Library.

Check out this beautiful new monumental staircase. The offices and workstations got an upgrade too. This rooftop offers great views of the District, an outer furniture to recharge and enjoy the view. I hope you enjoyed seeing what’s happening here at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. Follow us to see MGAC’s next move!
