University of California, San Diego, Tata Hall for the Sciences

San Diego, CA

The Tata Hall for the Sciences was built to address the University’s existing and future space needs associated with recent program growth, providing interactive and flexible research space to support biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and the physical sciences. The 130,000 SF building features wet and dry research laboratories, instructional space, offices, an auditorium, equipment room, and a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance facility. Sitework for the project included a new service and fire access road to connect the proposed building site to Scholar’s Drive South, as well as associated site improvements and enhancements to Urey Green.

The MGAC team worked with the University to establish an appropriate project budget from a Detailed Project Program and collaborated with the design team to ensure the design maintained alignment with the construction budget. Our team led the cost management component of value engineering exercises, reducing costs by $15 million.
