We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our Washington, DC based public sector schools team as an Assistant Project Manager. This individual will be an integral part of the project team and will have 2-4 years of prior construction management experience. This position is a hybrid position requiring at least 1-2 days in office and based on client need.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field
  • At least 2-4 years of building construction experience required
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, presentation, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of construction cost, scheduling, estimating, and engineering principles and techniques, accounting principles. Familiar with various construction methods, systems and materials, their characteristics, installation procedures and tolerances.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Project; ability to work independently to create tools and schedules to use in project management and analysis
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software; CAD, and Adobe InDesign a plus
  • Thorough follow through on all task responsibilities
  • Meticulous record keeping and representation of reliable data
  • A “Can Do” and positive attitude and have excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Support others and apply skills to make team contributions

What you’ll be doing (and why you’ll love it)

  • Responsible for assisting the Sr. Project Manager and Project Manager on MGAC’s construction projects. This position assists the Sr. Project Manager and Project Manager in all coordination, supervision and internal/external communications and will be groomed to run projects independently in the future.
  • As a critical element to the team, this position calls for continual evaluation of team effectiveness to the Client, time management and output; the completion of projects and tasks in a timely and cost-effective manner while serving both the business goals of MGAC and the Client’s requirements.
  • Contribute to the overall team goals and success. Foster team development and maximize potential, working with others to identify and remove barriers to success
  • Maintain owner, architect, subcontractor and vendor relations
  • Assist in the creation of project schedules. Monitor and communicate progress to the Sr Project Manager and Project Manager
  • Alert the Sr. Project Manager and Project Manager to conditions that could lead to significant delays in the completion of work or when the construction schedule falls behind
  • Provide documentation and written record as to the progress, issues, solutions, inspections, change orders, construction changes, meetings, drawings, products and other items that reflect the progress or lack thereof
  • Advocate on the part of the Owner and works with the Sr. Project Manager and Project Manager during disputes, disagreements, modifications or change orders
  • Attend meetings as the Owner’s Representative with the project team as needed
  • Track and submit invoices, purchase orders, and other financial commitments, exposures and obligations
  • Perform other duties and take on other responsibilities as required for the successful completion of the project
  • Keep Sr. Project Manager and Project Manager informed on progress and stages of the projects, providing briefing sessions at major completion stages
