I am often asked to pick a favorite project that I’ve worked on and I always respond with a laugh and by saying that I can’t pick. It’s like picking a favorite child because you live and breathe the process from start to finish.
For me, half of the fun happens before we ever even break ground on a project. It’s important we understand the needs of the client—even anticipating what they might not yet know—so that we can bring a project to life. I find a lot of joy in the process of finding just the right team for the job. Each client is different, and every project comes with unique challenges so this part of the job both keeps me on my toes and ensures no two builds will be alike.
The people I am able to meet on these new projects constantly inspire me. We work on projects that take anywhere from 6 to 24 months or more, so we are working closely with our clients and team members during this time. For that reason, it’s always bittersweet when a project comes to a close. Thankfully I know there’s always another interesting project to pick up that will come with the opportunity to cross paths with new talented team members.
Outside of work I enjoy serving as a board member for the Rare Kids Network and mentoring design and construction students at Virginia Tech, my alma mater. Additionally, you can often find me with my family and my dog Koda spending as much time outdoors as possible and staying busy exercising and practicing archery.
