The John Peter Van Ness Elementary School addition project includes work on three different buildings, an early childhood education playground, and the site work surrounding them on the school campus. Building #1 - The Annex (5,000 SF) building was formerly the Joy Evans Community Health Center. This was gutted and renovated into four extra classrooms and facilities to match the current education specifications and existing design of the school. Building #2 - The Historic Field House Renovation (1,250 SF) is the complete restoration of the historic Department of Parks and Recreation field house on the campus. This structure was stripped down to the main structure and restored. This building will be used by both DCPS and DPR. Building #3 - The Addition (5,100 SF) is a directly connected three classroom addition to the main school. This addition has been designed to accept two future stories on top of it for future school expansion. It will also include a rooftop classroom and rooftop community garden.
