School Within School (SWS) at Goding Elementary School was constructed in 1959 and serves students from PK3–5th Grade. The school is the only Reggio Emilia program in Washington, DC, which is a student-centered and constructivist self-guided curriculum that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship-driven environments.
Since its founding, the building has undergone a series of modest improvements, the latest of which was in 2017 to upgrade HVAC and lighting but has yet to receive a full modernization that would enable the Reggio Emilia programming to be fully realized. Upgrades to the 73,000 SF, five-story Anne Goding building bring it in line with the DC Public Schools (DCPS) Educational Specifications and increase the capacity to 350 students.
MGAC is providing project management, cost consulting, value engineering, and reconciliation services. The project is expected to be completed before the 2022 school year.
