MGAC Celebrates Summer Internships
Today we are reflecting on the interns and students who came to our Washington, DC and London offices over the summer months. Excited to broaden their knowledge and skillset, the interns were mainly focused on shadowing some of our Project and Cost Managers, but they were exposed to various aspects of construction and corporate life at MGAC more broadly throughout their time with us.
In our Washington, DC office, the intern’s day-to-day tasks were specific to their interests and gave them the widest opportunities to learn, such as establishing and monitoring project and construction schedules, attending meetings, taking minutes, and liaising with the team when needed. They were taught to track and submit invoices and purchase orders alongside other financial commitments. To enhance the use of their initiative, they were asked to take on other ad hoc responsibilities as required for the successful completion of various projects. The interns were encouraged to network and were included in site visits, as well as participating in MGAC Summer Nights events which included a baseball game at Nationals Park. To round off their summer experience, each intern developed and displayed a presentation to their teams to highlight what they had learned.
In the UK, our work experience students were given a similarly extensive experience, sitting in on the weekly Health + Safety team meeting, completing a site visit to our 318 Oxford Street project, and shadowing the project and cost management teams. The students were also given a LinkedIn masterclass from our Director of Talent, Melani King, which gave industry hacks to enhance their CV’s.
