MGAC appointed as cost manager on £145 million Edition Birmingham project

MGAC, the global project and cost management consultancy, has been appointed to oversee cost management on Edition Birmingham, a landmark £145 million residential scheme in the city centre site.

The scheme, led by developer Court Collaboration, is preparing to enter its construction phase, following the signing of the main works contract with Midgard. MGAC will advise the project team to ensure the project is delivered on time and within budget.

Located in the heart of Birmingham, Edition will bring 581 new homes to the city, including the 46-storey Centenary Tower, which is set to become one of Birmingham’s tallest residential buildings. Phase one is expected to be completed in 2027.

Designed for modern urban living, the scheme will offer a wide range of resident amenities, including a spa, gym, pool, co-working space, and sky lounge.

It has already achieved over £85 million in off-plan sales, a strong vote of confidence in Birmingham’s continued residential appeal.

“With construction set to begin soon, our role becomes even more critical,” said Chris Barker, Executive Director at MGAC. “We’re here to ensure the project remains financially controlled and commercially viable at every stage, from advising on procurement, to managing risk, and maintaining cost discipline as the build progresses.”

Beyond its housing delivery, Edition Birmingham will support around 300 construction jobs, including 60 apprenticeships. MGAC’s involvement safeguards significant investment in the development, offering robust cost oversight throughout.

“Projects of this scale come with pressure – on timelines, contractors, and budgets,” added Barker. “Our job is to give the delivery confidence that the financials are in expert hands, allowing them to focus on execution.”

MGAC brings experience from major city-centre developments across the UK and internationally, with deep expertise navigating procurement strategy, complex urban build conditions, and market volatility. The firm is currently advising on a range of large-scale residential, commercial, and mixed-use projects across the UK.
