Project: W Seattle, Seattle, WA
What if you wanted to reinvent the signature look of your hotels?
The W Hotel brand is all about what’s new and next. So in June 2012 when they announced their intention to invest more than $100 million to reinvent eleven signature properties across North America, fans of the brand were not surprised. Among these properties was the W Seattle, a modern high-rise retreat at the center of Seattle’s entertainment, retail, and financial districts. The hotel has held a top spot as one of the city’s hospitality leaders since its debut in 1999, and this effort aimed to further reinforce that position – and update public spaces to reflect W Hotel’s reputation for consistent, cutting-edge experiences.
We were brought on to manage the refresh, which included the renovation and repositioning of the living room, bar, restaurant, ballroom, and meeting rooms – all while the hotel remained fully operational. The 12-week construction process introduced a stainless steel shingle-clad fireplace as the focal point for the new public spaces, relocated the bar to a more prominent and central location, and created more fluid connections between the high-traffic living room, bar and TRACE restaurant. Multiple specialty subcontractors and vendors were hired to execute the unique details and finishes, which celebrate several influences that have shaped Seattle’s culture over the years.
From contracting key team members and vendors to providing general oversight and direction, we led the entire process to deliver the much-anticipated project in time for its January 2013 debut. After the success of the public space upgrades, the hotel invited us back to complete their vision by managing the renovation of its 424 guest rooms – which began construction in late 2015.
