What if you could create a new live and play destination in DC’s hottest neighborhood?

Northwest DC’s Shaw neighborhood is one of many areas within the nation’s capital experiencing a renewal. This is due to recent investments from major local developers including The JBG Companies, who envisioned Shaw as a vibrant, curated neighborhood similar to New York City’s famed meatpacking district. Central to this vision sits The Shay, a $40 million, live/play destination seeking to redefine urban living in DC’s highly competitive residential market.

We served as project managers and owner’s representatives for The Shay – one of many JBG developments we are involved with in the city. The 288,000 SF mixed-use building includes 245 studio, one-, and two-bedroom units atop underground parking and 28,000 SF of ground floor retail featuring a variety of curated businesses. The Shay consists of dual-building construction that spans both sides of a busy city street situated over active metro tunnels that required constant management and communication with parallel and competing District and Transit jurisdictions. What began as a developer’s dream for an underserved neighborhood has become one of the Districts hottest addresses, and a new retail and entertainment destination for residents and tourists alike.
